Injustice
For my final paper I chose to write about the injustices that the gay/lesbian community faces; specifically the issue regarding adoption. At the current moment in time, people who are gay/lesbian are not lawfully allowed to adopt children from Florida foster homes. While this is not an injustice that will affect me directly, it will affect people very close to me. This issue just simply doesn't make any sense. Who are we to say that someone isn't capable of being a great parent just because they choose to love someone of the same sex? Not to mention, lesbian women are able to go get artificial insemination, producing a child of their own, yet they aren't allowed to adopt a child. In terms of affecting our society, this not only affects the children currently in foster care that would have the potential of being adopted by a gay/lesbian couple if it was allowed, but it also restricts the lives of those couples who truly want to adopt and build a family. The solution to this is simple, to allow these couples to adopt. There is no potential danger or risk that Florida would be taking, it's only religious views that would be affected at all. Although not everyone will probably ever agree on the issue, the truth is, these couples are just as capable of being parents as a heterosexual couple. As a society we need to be more accepting of people as they are and not restrict them from doing good just because of who they choose to love.
